August 26, 2017

Summary: Upper  level high pressure continues to build with a new center of circulation over Nevada.  This will drive temperatures well above the century mark for the next several days as the high is not forecast to move much during the next week or so.  Hotter locations,  especially Monday and Tuesday, may surpass the 110 degree mark with most locations between 105 and 108.

Longer term, it’s quite speculative whether or not subtropical moisture will begin to move into at least southern California.  It could be that the high will be strong enough to keep any moisture south of our region.

The only hope for at least minor cooling will be about Wednesday or Thursday when a weak trough of low pressure moves through the Pacific Northwest, hopefully deepening the marine air enough to push a modified burst of sea breeze down the valley.

Friday through Sunday of next week will see the high rebuilding for a return to excessive temperatures.

Forecast:  Mostly clear skies through Tuesday.  Mostly clear skies will continue Tuesday night through Saturday.

Two Week Outlook: September 1 through September 7:  This model is rather interesting this morning.  It indicates a moist, southerly flow will be moving into southern California from a possible tropical system not even on the weather map yet.  On paper, central California is on the northern rim of activity.  It’s too far out to put rain in the forecast, but it is a model one doesn’t see often.  Temperatures will remain at least marginally above average.

September:  This model shows upper level high pressure more dominant over the western U.S.  There’s no clear indicator of above or below average rainfall as we move into the fall season.  With that in mind, we’ll call for near average precipitation for the month.

September, October, November:  It appears temperatures overall will rise to above average values for the bulk of this time frame.  Upper level high pressure is also more dominant with precipitation, believe it or not, predicted to be somewhat near average.

Winds: Winds will be generally less than 15 MPH through Tuesday and mainly out of the northwest afternoons and evenings.

Rain: Expect dry weather indefinitely.
