Summary: Temperatures at most locations will move into the mid 80s this afternoon and near 90 at many locations Tuesday. Currently, we have a northerly flow aloft rotating around an upper level high off the Pacific coast. At the surface, an off shore flow is developing which will create Santa Ana wind conditions in southern California and locally gusty northeast winds over the Sierra Nevada and the Kern County mountains. The combination of rising pressures aloft and the off shore flow will move temperatures into the low to mid 90s from Wednesday on. This is nowhere near record territory which this time of year are generally in the low to mid 100s.
The marine layer along the coast has dipped to 500 feet at Monterey and the freezing level has rising to 14,000 feet. These are indicators of warmer times ahead.
Beginning Thursday, the high will weaken slightly in response to an upper level low developing over southeast California and Arizona. It does not appear that this will bring any moisture this far north, but still we’ll keep an eye on it.
In the medium range, temperatures may fall back to near to marginally above average as the storm track moves back into the Pacific Northwest and clips northern California. All in all, however, central California will remain dry.
Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Thursday. Mostly clear and warmer Thursday night through Monday.

Two Week Outlook: October 2 through October 8: Models indicate that the storm track will move into the Pacific Northwest, just clipping northern California during this time frame. This should lower temperatures enough for seasonal to marginally above average levels with very little, if any, chance of precipitation.
October: The month of October, according to the latest models, will have generally or at least marginally above average temperatures as high pressure remains over the Desert Southwest. The Pacific Northwest will have above average precipitation and above average temperatures. Central California will be squeezed between these two systems, so it appears we’ll have an equal chance of rain for the month, which shouldn’t range too far from average.
October, November, December: Looking out to October through December, models show marginally above average temperatures for central and southern California. Models also indicate precipitation will be near average with the main storm track moving through the Pacific Northwest.
Winds: Winds will be generally less than 10 MPH through Thursday with periods of near calm conditions, especially during the night and morning hours.
Rain: Expect dry conditions indefinitely
