Summary: Temperatures this afternoon are running anywhere from one to six degrees warmer than 24 hours ago. The freezing level is up at 12,800 feet, meaning the air aloft is also quite warm. California is essentially cut in half with heavy cloud cover from Fresno north and generally clear skies to the south. Precipitation is occurring down to a Bay Area/Sacramento/Tahoe line from a cold front that has stalled out over northern California. This front will continue to weaken and be chewed up by a new high center building off the northwest coast of Mexico. Over the next 72 hours, this high will expand northward and will continue to build. This will turn out to be one of the warmest Thanksgiving’s you’ll ever see in the valley as temperatures warm into the upper 70s to the lower 80s Thanksgiving afternoon.
The high will continue to be dominant through the weekend with generally clear skies, but there will be pockets of fog here and there north of Kern County and mainly up the center of the valley as a warm air inversion continues to build. With that inversion in place, very hazy conditions can be expected along with poor air quality.
A cold front will try to jam its way into northern California Sunday night and Monday. For now, it looks doubtful that precipitation will affect central California, but some increase in clouds and possibly cooler temperatures will occur. The new two week outlook is pretty much indicating a zonal flow will be over the state which would maintain above average temperatures with the best chance of rain being over northern California.
Forecast: Partly cloudy tonight. Mostly clear to possibly partly cloudy from Fresno County northward Tuesday. Mostly clear Wednesday through Sunday with patchy night and morning fog. Partly cloudy Sunday night and Monday with patchy night and morning fog.
