Forecast

December 21, 2017/frost report

December 21, 2017

Summary:The following is temperatures recorded between 9:45 and 10:15 this evening.  Madera 30, Sanger 30, Navelencia 30 but had fallen to 27, Lindcove 30, Exeter 29, West Lindsay 30, east Lindsay 30, Strathmore 29, both west and east Porterville 29.  The coldest unprotected areas this evening were at or below freezing as early as 8:00pm.  Currently, every frost station is at or below freezing.  I’ve been watching these stations waffle in their temperatures.

For the remainder of the night, the trend will be somewhat erratic.  Stations that have gone up could possibly be the result of wind machines or other protective measures, but temperatures will begin to descend once again.  Obviously long durations will occur tonight with  temperatures reaching 28 or below at a number of stations between midnignt and 1:00am and not rising to above freezing until about 8:00 or 9:00 tomorrow morning.

Currently, it does appear coldest low lying locations will dip down to 22 to 24 with most other locations between 24 and 27.  I wouldn’t be at all surprised to hear of a riverbottom or two down to 20 degrees or so.

The inversion tonight should range between 3 and 5 degrees warmer at most locations.

I’m not going to include information for Saturday in this report and just concentrate on tonight.
