Forecast

January 29, 2018/pm report

January 29, 2018

Summary:  There is abundant sunshine over central California this afternoon, but it is a bit filtered from high, thin clouds overrunning the high ahead of a frontal system just now entering the Pacific Northwest.  Even though we will see a good amount of high clouds, especially tonight and Tuesday morning, generally clear skies will still prevail.

The front I alluded to will dissipate over northern California by Tuesday night or Wednesday.  The impact on the valley will be just about nil.

Temperatures this afternoon are already running in the low to mid 60s, so I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of a few locations in Kern County, especially near the base of the Kern County mountains, approach the 70 degree mark when all is said and done.  Temperatures will remain well above average through Tuesday then will slightly back off Wednesday as the high marginally weakens.  The high will begin to build a ridge late Wednesday through Sunday northward into the Pacific Northwest, shielding all of California from any chance of precipitation for the foreseeable future.

With a cap over the valley floor, there will be pockets of fog nights and mornings, especially north of Kern County, along with hazy conditions.  All in all, in the short and medium terms there is just not a lot to talk about with the bottom line being we will continue to enjoy well above average temperatures but with unfortunately dry conditions for the next week to possibly ten days.

Forecast: Partly cloudy tonight.  A mix of high clouds and sunshine Tuesday morning.  Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday with patchy morning fog.  Mostly clear Wednesday through Monday with pockets of fog up the center of the valley and north of Kern County nights and mornings along with occasional high clouds.
