Forecast

January 31, 2018/pm report

January 31, 2018

Summary:  All of the fog from earlier today in Tulare, Fresno, and Madera Counties has dissipated with hazy afternoon sunshine in its wake.  Temperatures are again well into the 60s and will likely end up near the 70 degree mark over some locations in the valley portion of Kern County. High cloud cover is beginning to overspread northern California ahead of a low pressure system moving into the Pacific Northwest.  The impact on central California will be nil outside of the high clouds which will move overhead from time to time tonight and Thursday.  By Friday, the dry ridge will extend much further north and will encompass the Pacific Northwest and even into southern British Columbia.  That will continue to cap the valley floor for areas of night and morning fog and hazy afternoons each day indefinitely.

As we now move into February, the stronger amounts of sunshine will help dissipate the fog each day so afternoon highs will continue to be spring like.  The new two week model suggests a continuation of the same old thing: a blocking ridge with winter hanging on big time east of the Rockies.

Forecast: Becoming partly cloudy overnight with areas of fog developing up the center of the valley north of Kern County with patchy fog elsewhere.  Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Thursday with the fog burning off by late morning.  Mostly clear Thursday night through Wednesday with hazy conditions and areas of night and morning fog north of Kern County.
