March 27, 2018

We will be out of the office today.  Reports will resume Wednesday morning.  Thank you for your patience.

Summary: Clear skies prevail over California this morning.  Temperatures are anywhere from 2 to 4 degrees warmer at most locations than 24 hours ago.  A relatively strong upper level high is slowly building eastward from the eastern Pacific and will result in a significant warming trend beginning today.  Readings at many locations this afternoon may top the 70 degree mark and then once we get to the Thursday through Saturday time frame, upper 70s and lower 80s are likely.  The only real change in our pattern will occur Sunday and Monday of next week as a weak trough breaks down the high over northern and central California.  As the trough moves through, no doubt variable cloudiness will prevail at times Sunday through Monday along with a minor cooling trend.  Even this this trough passage, temperatures will remain at least marginally above average.

All the medium range models are indicating a flat zone of upper level high pressure will be off the California coast, extending inland into the western U.S.  A zonal or westerly flow will be dominant next week, keeping temperatures above average with very little, if any, chance of precipitation.

We will be out of the office today.  Reports will resume Wednesday morning.  Thank you for your patience.

Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Saturday.   Variable mid and high level clouds Saturday through Monday.  Mostly clear Monday afternoon through Tuesday.

Two Week Outlook:  April 3 through April 9:  This model is persistent in showing a strong ridge of upper level high pressure building over and off the west coast.  This is a dry pattern.  Temperatures under this regime will range above seasonal values.

March:  Not much encouragement as far as rainfall is concerned as this model is indicating below average precipitation, especially over the second half of the month.  So far, this model predicts near average temperatures.

March, April, May:  The ninety-day outlook doesn’t exactly make one happy if rain is the desired outcome.  It does show a better than average chance of above average temperatures, mainly due to high pressure off shore, and below average precipitation.

Winds: Winds will be generally less than 12 MPH later mornings and afternoons and less than 7 MPH with periods of near calm conditions nights and early mornings through Friday.

Rain:  Expect dry weather for at least the next week to ten days.

Frost:  All locations will be above freezing indefinitely.

Afternoon Dew Points Today: Upper 30s to the lower 40s.  Kern: Mid to upper 30s.
