March 29, 2018

Summary: Temperatures jumped right into the mid to upper 70s yesterday and today, readings will move into the low to possibly mid 80s in many locations.  Low to mid 80s are also likely through Saturday.  Upper level high pressure continues to reside over the eastern Pacific and the western ¼ of the United States.  A weak low will approach the southern California coast Saturday.  This system is rather benign but will throw some mid and high level clouds over the region at times Friday through Sunday.  By Sunday night, this low will have moved into the Desert Southwest, allowing upper level high pressure to again rebound through at least the first half of next week.

Some models for around the sixth and seventh are indicating a strong low pressure system will spread rain over the Pacific Northwest and roughly the northern half of California.  On paper, Fresno County is the dividing line between precipitation to the north and dry weather to the south.  We’ll have to see what trends develop.

Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Friday.  Mostly clear Friday night through Sunday but with occasional mid and high  level clouds.  Mostly clear Sunday night through Thursday.

Two Week Outlook:  April 5 through April 11:  This model is suggesting a rather strong trough of low pressure with widespread precipitation will be over the Pacific Northwest and northern California.  Fresno County seems to be the dividing line between wet weather to the north and dry weather to the south.  Temperatures will continue to be at least marginally above average.  We’ll see what trends develop.

March:  Not much encouragement as far as rainfall is concerned as this model is indicating below average precipitation, especially over the second half of the month.  So far, this model predicts near average temperatures.

March, April, May:  The ninety-day outlook doesn’t exactly make one happy if rain is the desired outcome.  It does show a better than average chance of above average temperatures, mainly due to high pressure off shore, and below average precipitation.

Winds: Winds will be generally less than 12 MPH later mornings and afternoons and less than 7 MPH with periods of near calm conditions nights and early mornings through Sunday.

Rain:  Dry weather will continue through the weekend and for most of next week.  For the second day in a row, models are hinting at a deep trough of low pressure affecting the Pacific Northwest and northern California.  On paper, the dividing line between wet weather to the north and dry weather to the south runs right across Fresno County.  So, if there’s any credence to these projections, the chance of rain will increase from Fresno northward about April sixth and continue through the seventh with a marginal chance of rain further south.

Frost:  All locations will be above freezing indefinitely.
