June 2, 2018
Summary: Temperatures this morning are running anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees warmer than 24 hours ago. Upper level high pressure continues to build inland, driving temperatures to well above average levels through Monday. Readings in the warmer locations, even this afternoon, will jump into the upper 90s, eclipsing the 100 degree mark Sunday and Monday.
Satellite imagery tells it all this morning as the usual June gloom of fog and low clouds along the coast is completely absent, so no marine influence for the next 48 hours or so. Beginning Monday, a low will drop southward into the Pacific Northwest, eventually forming a weak trough along the west coast. This will start the process of deepening the marine layer again as some modified sea breeze will begin to penetrate through the Delta Monday, but more than likely not arriving in time to make much of a difference in the central and south valley then. More and more modified marine air will spill into the valley from time to time Tuesday through Thursday, lowering temperatures to near seasonal averages by mid week and generally maintaining that range through next weekend. A big upper high will be parked over Texas and that weak trough will linger over and off the west coast, keeping a dry southwesterly flow aloft continuing.
Forecast: Clear skies with a rapid warming trend through Sunday. Clear skies with a slow cooling trend Monday through Saturday.

Two Week Outlook: June 8 through June 14: This model shows a trough of low pressure moving into the western states and remaining for a few days. Temperatures under this pattern would lower to near seasonal values. There will be no chance of precipitation.
June: As we head into the summer months, it appears this June will be mostly dry, as is typical. Models are projecting higher than average pressure patterns during the month so look for temperatures, generally speaking, to be above average.
June, July, August: All summers are hot in the San Joaquin Valley, and typically very dry. This summer will be no exception. If there’s any tendency on modeling at all it would be that upper level high pressure would be marginally stronger than average with temperatures also running marginally above average. The monsoon season will begin in several weeks so it’s impossible to tell it will be an active one this year. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Winds: Winds will be at or less than 15 MPH afternoons and evenings and mainly out of the northwest through Sunday night. Winds Monday through Tuesday will be out of the northwest at 5 to 15 MPH with local gusts to 25 MPH, mainly in western Fresno and Kings Counties.
Rain: Expect dry conditions indefinitely
Afternoon Dew Points Today: Low to mid 40s.. Kern: Low to mid 40s.
