Forecast

June 6 2018/report

June 6, 2018

Summary: There continues to be roughly an 8 to 10 mb difference in pressure between San Francisco and Las Vegas.  This, of course, is creating a decent on shore flow.  Winds at Fairfield up in the Delta have been gusting to between 20 and 30 MPH.  through Pacheco Pass, winds are sustained at 23, gusting to 35 MPH.  My feeling is that most locations will not reach the 90 degree mark today and more especially on Thursday as the valley pools with marine air.

All this is due to a weak trough of low pressure over and off the west coast.  The air aloft has cooled somewhat with freezing levels both at Vandenberg and Oakland at 13,800 feet.  Temperatures will nudge up a tad Friday as weak high pressure upwells ahead of a stronger but dry trough of low pressure which will move through during the weekend.  Temperatures may very well drop into the low to mid 80s Sunday but then, as the trough shifts eastward in response to building high pressure off shore, a warming trend will begin Monday.

Most models are indicating high pressure dominating our pattern for much of next week with temperatures rising to above average values by the middle of the week.  Readings may very well return to the upper 90s to the lower 100s.

Forecast: Other than occasional high clouds, it will be mostly clear through Sunday.  Mostly clear Sunday night through Wednesday.

Two Week Outlook:  June 12 through June 18:  This model shows a trough of low pressure moving into the western states and remaining for a few days.  Temperatures under this pattern would lower to near seasonal values.  There will be no chance of precipitation.

June:  As we head into the summer months, it appears this June will be mostly dry, as is typical.  Models are projecting higher than average pressure patterns during the month so look for temperatures, generally speaking, to be above average.

June, July, August:  All summers are hot in the San Joaquin Valley, and typically very dry.  This summer will be no exception.  If there’s any tendency on modeling at all it would be that upper level high pressure would be marginally stronger than average with temperatures also running marginally above average.  The monsoon season will begin in several weeks so it’s impossible to tell it will be an active one this year.  We’ll just have to wait and see.

Winds: Winds will be out of the northwest at 5 to 15 MPH at times through Saturday with locally stronger gusts, mainly in the afternoons and evenings.

Rain:  Expect dry conditions indefinitely
