Forecast

October 11, 2018/report

October 11, 2018

Summary:  Skies are generally clear throughout central California this afternoon in spite of a weak wave of low pressure which is currently moving through.  This little wave will be an interesting feature through Friday night as it almost cuts off and begins to pick up tropical moisture from tropical storm Sergio which will move through central Baja later tonight and early Friday.  For now, most of the model information show this low moving into southern California Friday through Saturday, possibly resulting in a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms for the Coachella Valley southward.  By the time we get to Saturday night and Sunday, the low will be moving off to the east, confining the rain possibility to mainly the far lower deserts and western Arizona and southern Nevada.

Meanwhile, a large ridge will build along the Pacific coast and will begin to move inland into  northern and central California, especially during the second half of the weekend.  This will allow temperatures to possibly rise into the mid 80s.  the only feature which will try to keep temperatures down a bit will be a very weak benign little low pressure system, possibly centering over southern Nevada with no weather.  There may, though, be just enough weakness to the atmosphere to allow temperatures to climb up above the mid 80s.

It looks like we’ll have dry conditions next week through next weekend under that dome of high pressure.  In fact, no current modeling indicates a return to the mild weather we’ve had of late as even the two week  model shows upper level high pressure dominating with little, if any, chance of precipitation.

Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Monday with occasional high clouds, mainly from Kern County southward Friday and Saturday.  Mostly clear with warm afternoons Sunday night through Thursday.

Two Week Outlook:  October 19 through October 25:  Upper level high pressure will take over the eastern Pacific and western North America during this time frame.  This will result in above average temperatures with little, if any, chance of precipitation.

October:  This model is indicating an above average chance of precipitation through roughly southern California.  The Pacific Northwest appears fairly dry, considering the time of year, especially.  We actually have a chance of below average temperatures during the month.

October, November, December:  It is typical for the 90 day forecast to be put out with above average temperatures for the time frame and this is certainly no exception.  There is no real persistent pattern to hang your hat on for now, so it would appear precipitation will be about average.

Winds:  Winds will generally be less than 10 MPH indefinitely.

Rain:  Expect dry weather indefinitely.
