Forecast

November 5, 2018/pm report

November 5, 2018

Summary: A dry, northwesterly flow aloft continues over California.  The center of the high’s circulation is several hundred miles off the southern California coast.  The main storm track continues to rotate over the top of the  high then into the Pacific Northwest.  Systems continue to weaken as they move into the Great Basin.  One weak wave of low pressure is moving through the interior west today and has actually resulted in some increased winds from Merced County northward with dew points falling into the mid to upper 20s in the lower Sacramento Valley.  For  now, though, it doesn’t look as though this dry air will infiltrate the central valley.

Temperatures this afternoon are also a tad cooler, generally from 2 to 5 degrees cooler.  It doesn’t appear we will experience readings over 80 degrees this week as the same basic pattern will be in place through this coming weekend.

We are still looking at the timeframe from the 12th through the 15th for a possible pattern change.  The chance of measurable rain on the valley floor still appears low, but it is possible some kind of weather system will move through California during this time frame.  No model shows this as being very impressive, however.

One model this afternoon is pointing towards another system about the 17th or so.  I may just be grasping at straws, but at this point even small encouragements are better than nothing.

Forecast: Outside of occasional high, thin clouds, it will be clear through Thursday.  Generally clear skies will continue Thursday night through Monday.
