Forecast

June 19, 2020/report

June 19, 2020

Summary: Upper level high pressure continues to build slowly eastward.  Just off the northern California coast is a small area of high clouds which will be visible from time to time today.  Otherwise, mostly clear skies will continue.  The marine layer along the coast at Monterey is roughly 1,000 feet deep, which is enough for low clouds to fill the Salinas Valley, however there’s only a 3 millibar difference in pressure between San Francisco and Las Vegas, meaning what on shore flow there is will be too weak to affect the San Joaquin Valley.  Hottest locations this afternoon will tease with the century mark.

We are now entering into a period of hot weather as the eastern Pacific high continues to shift further east.  For much of next week, temperatures will generally be in the 101 to 105 degree range.  Models continue to depict the formation of a cut off low well off the southern California coast.  Some previous models had shown this feature approaching the northern California coast by late next week.  However, latest model runs show this system remaining off shore.  By later next week, we should begin to see another high center develop over the Four Corners region.  If anything, it will mean even hotter weather towards next weekend.

Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Tuesday.  Mostly clear Tuesday night through Friday.
