National Dogs in Politics Day
Summary: A series of disturbances continues to run from west to east into the Pacific Northwest. Each time one of these waves moves into Washington and Oregon, the high above central California weakens. In fact, temperatures this morning are generally running 1 to 4 degrees lower than 24 hours ago. This process will continue through Friday as the trough over the Pacific Northwest sags a bit further south into northern California. This will lower temperatures Thursday and Friday into the mid to upper 80s, which is actually just marginally below average for late September.
Precipitation will remain well to our north and will only affect the far northern counties of California near the Oregon border.
Enjoy this little taste of fall while you can as summer will come roaring back this weekend and will be around for what looks like all of next week. By Saturday night and Sunday, a strong high will be located just off the northern California coast, driving temperatures Sunday into at least the mid 90s at most locations. Hottest locations on the valley floor Monday through Wednesday will be near the century mark, possibly topping out at 101 or 102 or so. Models indicate a very amplified pattern will develop next week as a massive high stretches from the Desert Southwest northeastward to off the coast of the Pacific Northwest. By Wednesday, the ridge will build into western Canada as a very autumn like trough digs southward east of the Rockies, where temperatures will be well below average.
Along with the Indian summer will be very dry conditions with low humidity, not exactly what you’d call ideal for firefighting efforts.
Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Saturday. Mostly clear skies Saturday night through Wednesday.

Two Week Outlook: September 30 through October 6: This model is indicating a strong ridge of upper level high pressure will be over the western one-third of the U.S. for very dry conditions. Temperatures will remain above to possibly well above average.
September: This model is indicating basically the western half of the United States will have above average temperatures, continuing the trend of the summer season into the early fall. This model shows near average precipitation, which is minimal at best anyway.
