November 19, 2020
Summary: There remains a good amount o flow clouds along the eastern flank of Tulare County as of the time of this writing with partial clearing over Kern County. The base of the overcast has risen to 2,900 feet.
A weak surface high is developing over the Great Basin. It will generate an off shore flow Friday and through much of the weekend. This will likely mix out whatever low clouds remain, though I wouldn’t be surprised to see pockets of low clouds all the way through Friday morning.
Well off the California coast is a weak upper air disturbance which will begin to spread some mid and high level clouds over the valley later tonight and Friday.
In the broad picture, a zonal flow is now in place, meaning there’s a west to east flow across California. This flow is typically fairly mild and will generally maintain highs in the 60s into early next week. Dew points are quite high out there this afternoon, ranging in the mid 40s to near 50. Fog will have no trouble forming, especially near the center of the valley, each morning through the middle of next week.
Upper level high pressure over the eastern Pacific will begin to expand northward and eatward Tuesday, tightening the cap over the valley floor which will keep temperatures above average through next weekend.
Forecast: Areas of low clouds and fog later tonight. otherwise it will be partly cloudy. Areas of fog and low clouds Friday morning with variable cloudiness during the day. Look for areas of night and morning fog and low clouds, mainly towards the center of the valley, each morning through Thanksgiving with mostly clear and hazy afternoons and evenings.

Winds: Winds during the night through midmorning hours will be generally at or less than 5 MPH with extended periods of near calm conditions through Sunday. Winds during the late morning through afternoon hours will be variable to 10 MPH.
Rain: Expect dry weather tonight and for at least the next 7 to possibly 10 days.
Frost: All locations will be above 32 degrees tonight. moisture behind yesterday’s frontal passage has left dew points in the mid 40s to even near 50, so there’s plenty of available moisture for fog and low clouds. Variable amounts of mid and high level clouds will overspread the valley tonight, maintaining above freezing conditions. From Friday night through Monday night, any evening with mostly clear skies will see readings in the 32 to 38 degree range. It’s possible sink hole type locations could drop to 30 for short durations. With dew points expected to remain high, no frost threat is expected for at least the next week, if not longer.
