Some high, thin clouds are already streaming in from the north/northwest as the next weather system dives through the Pacific Northwest. They’ll move into the Great Basin Thursday. Light showers will spread down the high Sierra on Thursday as a strong north/northwest flow moves over central California. The lift over the Kern County mountains will cause yet another cloud deck to form over the southern San Joaquin Valley later Thursday night through Friday morning. it will be Saturday before these clouds completely mix out.
On Saturday, fairly strong upper level high pressure over the eastern Pacific will build eastward into the western 1/3 of the US, resulting in a nice warming trend. By Sunday, warmer locations on the valley floor will be eclipsing the 80 degree mark for the first time this spring. Models for Monday and Tuesday show a powerful low dropping out of the Gulf of Alaska and into the Pacific Northwest. Unfortunately, this major storm will move into the northern Rockies rather than southward into California.
For now, it appears dry weather will continue through at least the middle of next week and more than likely through the end of the month.
