A strong low pressure system is located just off the Oregon coast this morning with a trough extending into California. There is also a surface low centered over northern Utah which is creating a strong onshore flow. Currently, winds through Pacheco Pass are at 24 MPH, gusting to 35 MPH. maritime air is also spilling over the Coast Range further south. Temperatures are anywhere from 13 to 17 degrees cooler than 24 hours ago. Temperatures this afternoon will struggle to reach the 80 degree mark. It’s possible that readings could drop into the upper 70s at some locations Wednesday and Thursday as the main trough of low pressure moves inland.
As you might imagine, gusty northwest winds can be expected through Wednesday night. the trough will be well inland late Thursday through Friday. The pattern for Friday night through Sunday indicates a high center over Mexico with a weaker trough of low pressure off the coast of the Pacific Northwest. The proximity of the high appears to be a bit closer, so it looks like a fairly significant warming trend will set up over the weekend with readings possibly in the mid 90s by Monday. We may see a minor cooling trend by the middle of next week as a weak trough moves inland, but generally speaking, fairly typical early summer weather will prevail.
Forecast: Mostly clear skies through tonight. mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Wednesday and Wednesday night. mostly clear Thursday through Tuesday.

Two Week Outlook: June 15 through June 21: this model shows a wide ranging high pressure system over the western US, resulting in above average temperatures and dry conditions.
June: This model is indicating a ridge of upper level high pressure will be more dominant over the Desert Southwest and, to a lesser extent, California, resulting in above average temperatures for the month with the usual dry conditions prevailing.
June, July, August: This model mimics the pattern of recent years, indicating high pressure over the Desert Southwest being the most dominant feature, resulting in above average temperatures. Theoretically, this pattern blocks monsoonal moisture from moving northward. Typically, there’s little to no precipitation anyway, and that will be the case this summer.
Winds Discussion: Winds through Wednesday night will be out of the northwest at 10 to 20 MPH at times with stronger gusts. Gusts to 35 MPH are possible along the west side, especially Wednesday through Wednesday night. Winds Thursday through Friday during the afternoons and evenings will be out of the northwest at 8 to 15 MPH with light winds during the night and morning hours.
