Forecast

July 5, 2021/report

July 5, 2021

The first half of the week will be hot.  The late part of the workweek and well into next week will  be extremely hot.  Through Wednesday, at the surface, there will be a balancing act.  The marine layer is actually fairly deep with a depth of 2,400 feet.  However, pressure along the coast is only slightly higher than inland.  A shallow surge of marine air is moving through the Delta.  Winds this morning at Travis AFB  are sustained at 23, gusting to 31.  Through Pacheco Pass, winds are sustained at just 15 MPH.  this may be enough to  keep temperatures in the upper 90s from Merced County north.  Upper level high pressure will remain in its current position over the Four Corners region.  The clockwise flow around the high has a minimal amount of high level moisture moving through the deserts of southern California as far north as southern Inyo County.  However, clear skies with only a few high clouds can be expected through the workweek.

By Thursday night, the  Four Corners high will begin to retrograde towards the California coast.  By Friday night and through the weekend, the high will park over Nevada.  Models indicate this high will be extremely strong, driving temperatures possibly into the 108 to 112 range Saturday through  Tuesday.  Some models show the high shifting back towards the east by Wednesday as a very weak trough of low pressure tries to move into northern California, trending temperatures slowly downward.

Forecast: Mostly clear and hot through Thursday.  Mostly clear and very hot Friday through Monday.
