Strong upper level high pressure covers Colorado and Wyoming on the east to California on the west. The clockwise flow along the bottom side of the high maintains a weak southeast flow aloft over central California. The bulk of the monsoonal moisture remains over Arizona with a weaker blend of moisture over central California. this will allow for partly cloudy skies from time to time. Daytime heating will also trigger scattered thunderstorms up and down the Sierra Nevada afternoons and evenings. At the surface, the marine has actually deepened to around 2,000 feet. However winds at Travis AFB are out of the southwest at 16 MPH while at Pacheco Pass winds are out of the west at just 9 MPH. like yesterday, this may provide for cooling in the Delta and Merced County. The axis of the high will shift right over California Saturday through Monday. Some of t he high resolution models indicate readings pushing 110 in the hot spots Sunday and Monday.
By Tuesday, a trough of low pressure will finally develop from western Canada southward through northern and central California. Somewhat cooler air will begin to shift in from the west. The marine layer will deepen and surge inland with readings falling into the mid to upper 90s, but not until next Friday. Another high, this time from the eastern Pacific will build inland over California for our next warming trend next weekend.
Forecast: Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy through Monday and continued hot. Becoming mostly clear Tuesday. Mostly clear Tuesday night through Saturday with a cooling trend.

Two Week Outlook: August 21 through August 27 This model shows a dry, southwesterly flow aloft as the eastern Pacific High governs our weather. This will result in above averate temperatures once again with very little chance of rain. :
July: The 30 day outlook for July follows the trend set in June with above average temperatures and upper level high pressure that’s stronger than usual. The typical dry conditions will continue.
July, August, September: Above average temperatures can be expected for the next three months. This model is given equal chance of rain for not only California but also the parched desert southwest.
Winds Discussion: Winds during the afternoon and early evening will be mainly out of the northwest at around 5 to 12 MPH. Winds during the night and morning hours will be variable to around 5 MPH with periods of near calm conditions through Tuesday.
Rain: Afternoon and evening thunderstorms will continue to percolate up over the High Sierra through at least Monday with just bands of mid and high level clouds over the valley floor. The chance of rain will remain slim to none but with the monsoon in play we will keep a watchful eye. Expect dry weather Tuesday, continuing Tuesday night through the weekend and, more than likely, well beyond.
