August 17, 2021/report

It’s been three weeks since the last infusion of chemo, which means it’s time for another round, which will happen tomorrow morning.  With each round, John gets more and more sick.  His oncologist has added two more anti-nausea meds to his arsenal.  If price equals effectiveness, these should be pretty effective Thank you for standing by us.  We pray for you and yours.

August 17, 2021

A rather significant low pressure system has dropped into the Pacific Northwest and northern California. The balloon sounding over Oakland this morning indicated the winds aloft between 5,000 and 30,000 feet are generally out of the west/northwest between 25 and 45 MPH, depending upon specific elevation.  The air immediately above the valley floor is much cooler.  As of 6:00am, the temperature up at Blue Canyon and Sandberg is 13 degrees cooler than 24 hours ago.

The marine layer has now deepened to 3,000 feet and is surging inland.  Winds at both Pacheco Pass and through the Delta at Travis AFB are ranging from 20 to 35 MPH.  On the valley floor itself, readings are down 3 to 11 degrees from yesterday.

The backbone of the heat wave has finally been broken as most locations will not reach the century mark today with the possible location of hottest locations in Kern County.  The low, by tomorrow at this time, will have shifted over Idaho then over the Rockies on Thursday.  A weaker low will follow a similar path into the Pacific Northwest over the weekend, keeping temperatures marginally below average.  This appears to be a roughly one week cool down.  Models for roughly Wednesday or Thursday of next week show the dominant pattern of the summer to be strong high pressure over the Four Corners region expanding back towards California, possibly returning temperatures to triple digits by the middle of next week.

Forecast:   Clear and cooler through tomorrow.  Mostly clear Wednesday night through Tuesday.
