Forecast

November 27, 2021/report

November 27, 2021

There are certainly signs that the valley floor has dried out. Only patchy fog prevails even though we’re under a strong warm air inversion. visibilities from Bakersfield to Madera generally range from 5 to 9 miles. There was good radiational cooling again last night under clear skies with widespread low to mid 30s in the citrus belt. Rio Bravo was the cold spot as of 6:00am with a reading of 29.  Lindsay fell to 31.

Strong upper level high pressure is centered roughly 600 miles off the central coast and extends eastward over California and into the Great Basin. At the surface, pressure is still somewhat higher over the interior west than they are off the southern California coast. As of 6:00am, the altimeter at

Salt Lake City was reading 30.32 inches of mercury while at LAX, the current reading is 30.05.

Now that the valley is capped, the biggest problem will be poor air quality.  Medium range models don’t offer much hope that the current pattern will be broke. British Columbia and Washington state will endure flooding over the next week or so while California remains dry.

Forecast: Other than patchy fog and hazy conditions, it will be mostly clear with occasional periods of high clouds through next Saturday.

Two Week Outlook:  December 4 through December 10: This model is not as favorable in the possibility of the storm track moving further south. It now indicates the bulk of the precipitation affecting the Pacific Northwest and possibly northern California with above average temperatures continuing.

December, January, February: If this model is to be believed at all, temperatures will be marginally above average over central California. This model also depicts the main storm track continuing into the Pacific Northwest with somewhat below average precipitation over the southern 2/3 of California.

Wind Discussion:  Winds tonight through Tuesday will be generally variable at no more than 10 MPH with periods of near calm conditions.

Rain:  Expect dry conditions for at least the next 7 to 10 days.

Frost: Lows this morning are again in the low to mid 30s north of Kern County and the mid 30s to near 40 in Kern County. I anticipate temperatures tonight to be possibly a degree or two milder  as daytime highs begin to creep up underneath the dome of upper level high pressure. For the next several days, lows will generally run from 31  to 38  with a few frost pockets near 30. Kern County will be generally above freezing with better mixing as the off shore flow continues. There’s still nothing worrisome showing up on longer range models regarding a potentially cold weather pattern.
