January 27, 2022
Another day of wall to wall sunshine. Visibilities this afternoon aren’t too bad with most reporting stations at between 5 to 10 miles. Temperatures were pushing into the 60s as of 1:00pm with most locations topping out in the upper 60s this afternoon.. expect the same Friday afternoon. Upper level high pressure is literally right overhead. Sneaking in behind the high is a weak upper low which will move through southern California over the weekend with just some clouds for us. Pressures aloft will fall, however. And temperatures will also decline. By Monday, a trough of low pressure will dig rapidly southward through the Great Basin as a mammoth upper high builds over the eastern Pacific into the Gulf of Alaska. This will set up a chilly north/northwest flow aloft with temperatures falling to below average. Unfortunately, the energy that at one time we thought would bring precipitation to central California will slide southward too far to the east with only a minimal chance of showers over the high Sierra about Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Behind this system, models place us under another blocking ridge pattern so not only will January be the driest on record, but early February also poses little chance of precipitation.
Forecast: Outside of patchy night and morning fog, it will be mostly clear through Sunday. Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Sunday night through Thursday with patchy night and early morning fog.

Wind Discussion: Winds will be generally at or less than 6 MPH with periods of near calm conditions through Sunday.
Rain: Expect dry weather for at least the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: I’m sticking pretty much with the same forecast for the next couple of mornings. Dew points are mainly in the upper 30s to the mid 40s with temperatures similar to what they’ve been the past few days.. River bottoms and frog ponds will brush with the upper 20s with the vast majority of locations in the low to mid 30s. the pattern for the first week in February will be definitely colder as a north/northwest flow develops along the eastern side of blocking high pressure off shore. There’s no freeze threat on the horizon, but I wouldn’t’ rule out a clear morning next week being in the upper 20s to the mid 30s.
