Most locations received a good soaking from the current storm. Rainfall amounts generally ranged from a tenth to a third of an inch. However, a few locations received over a half inch where isolated thunderstorms popped up. More rainfall amounts are discussed below.
Widely scattered showers are still dotting the valley but will end by late morning as the back side of the low moves eastward into Nevada and the interior western US. The west side of the valley will be somewhat breezy today as surface pressures tighten up between San Francisco and Las Vegas. The current altimeter reading at San Francisco is 29.97 inches of mercury while Las Vegas was reporting 29.71. the pressure gradient will increase as the day progresses.
Today will be on the cool side. The current freezing level taken a short time ago above Oakland was just 4,700 feet. That will begin to sharply rise over the next 72 hours as a ridge of high pressure builds in from the west. A bubble of warm, subsiding air will drive the temperature to near 80 as early as Monday compared to the mid 60s I anticipate this afternoon.
The high will flatten out next week with the storm track generally ranging from west to east into British Columbia and Washington state with California remaining dry.
Forecast: Scattered showers for a time this morning. Becoming partly cloudy this afternoon. Partly cloudy tonight but remaining mostly cloudy in Kern County through Saturday morning. Mostly clear skies Saturday afternoon and on through Friday of next week with occasional periods of high clouds.

Two Week Outlook: April 28 through May 4: This model indicates a trough of low pressure will be moving into the western states, resulting in a chance of showers, mainly for northern California. Colder air aloft will also be associated with this feature, resulting in marginally below average temperatures.
May: This model shows a dominant high stretching from Texas to southern California, resulting in somewhat above average temperatures for the month. It also gives an equal chance of above or below normal precipitation.
May, June, July: This model shows an early season high over the Four Corners region of the desert southwest, stretching westward to California, causing temperatures as we head into summer to be marginally above average. Since this is the dry season, the chances of precipitation will be very low
Wind Discussion: Winds through the late evening hours will be mainly out of the northwest at 10 to 20 mph at times. Stronger gusts will be possible, mainly along the west side. These winds will decrease during the late evening through the overnight hours. Winds Saturday through Monday will be generally out of the northwest afternoons and evenings at 5 to 12 mph.. Winds during the night and morning hours will be generally light and variable with periods of near calm conditions.
