Temperatures today will drop by a good 10 to 13 degrees over yesterday’s readings. The upper high responsible for the short lived heat wave is now moving into the middle of the country while a trough of low pressure extends from British Columbia down into northern and central California. Roughly an 8 millibar difference in pressure now exists between San Francisco and Las Vegas. This moderate on shore flow is allowing modified marine air to push down the valley. At last report, Pacheco Pass had winds out of the west sustained at 31 mph. the freezing level above Oakland this morning has dropped to 12,700 feet which isn’t horribly low, but does illustrate the cooler air moving in aloft. The trough will be reinforced Sunday as a new low moves into the Pacific Northwest, clipping northern California. The trough will begin to fill Tuesday and Wednesday then will be displaced by a new ridge of high pressure Thursday and into the coming weekend with temperatures moving back into the 90s next Thursday and Friday.
Forecast: Partly cloudy today and tonight. Mostly clear Saturday through Monday with a cooling trend. Mostly clear Monday night through Friday. Much warmer Thursday and Friday.

Two Week Outlook: June 3 through June 9: This model is showing a flat zone of upper level high pressure extending from the eastern Pacific eastward into California resulting in near average temperatures with dry conditions continuing.
May: This model shows a dominant high stretching from Texas to southern California, resulting in somewhat above average temperatures for the month. It also gives an equal chance of above or below normal precipitation.
May, June, July: This model shows an early season high over the Four Corners region of the desert southwest, stretching westward to California, causing temperatures as we head into summer to be marginally above average. Since this is the dry season, the chances of precipitation will be very low
Wind Discussion: There will be periods of winds out of the northwest at 10 to 20 mph at time through Monday with stronger gusts, mainly along the west side but locally elsewhere.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for at least the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
