June 1, 2022/report

June 1, 2022

The marine layer has crept back towards the beaches this morning as upper level high pressure, which was off shore yesterday, will move overhead today. This will result in temperatures jumping from yesterday’s mid 80s to the mid 90s today. A trough of low pressure will stretch from off shore Washington down into northern and central California Thursday night and Friday. The marine layer will respond accordingly and will begin moving through the Delta Thursday but will arrive too late in the central and south valley for cooling to arrive. Arrive it will, however, on Friday. This trough will be strong enough to spread some light showers over parts of northern California Saturday through Sunday with some increase in cloud cover from mainly Fresno County north. As you might expect, temperatures will trend downward over the weekend and will end up just marginally below average for the first week in June. I guess it’s appropriate that mid 90s show up today as we begin meteorological summer. The fairly mild weather that will follow will last into early next week. by the middle of next week, a high center over northern Mexico will begin to build northward over the western states for what may turn out to be several days of hot weather beginning about Thursday of next week, lasting through next weekend.

Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Friday. Partly cloudy from Fresno north Saturday through Sunday and mostly clear in the south valley. Mostly clear skies Sunday night through Wednesday.
