California is on the far back side of upper level high pressure which is currently moving eastward into the middle of the country. A large low center is located several hundred miles off the Washington coast and is developing a trough southeastward into northern California. Mid 90s can be expected for one more day even though the air aloft is already beginning to show signs of cooling.
The freezing level taken a short time ago over Oakland was 12,700 feet, roughly 2,000 feet lower than 24 hours ago. As the trough continues to deepen, modified marine air will push through the Delta and over other gaps and passes along the Coast Range beginning later this afternoon and continuing through Sunday. Gusty northwesterly winds can be expected at times through the period.
For the second day in a row, models are depicting a strong high off the southern California coast with a ridge building northward through the Pacific Northwest and clear into British Columbia. This will result in a significant warming trend beginning the middle of next week. triple digits will be possible from next Thursday well into the following weekend.
Forecast: Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy through Sunday. Mostly clear Sunday night through Thursday.

Two Week Outlook: June 9 through June 15: This model is depicting a rather strong ridge of high pressure over the Desert Southwest and the eastern Pacific Ocean. Temperatures will rise to above average with the usual dry weather continuing.
June: This model shows a high center over New Mexico and Texas extending into California for marginally above average temperatures for the month with the usual dry conditions prevailing.
June, July, August: This model is hinting at a possible active monsoon season this year once we get into July and August. It’s possible we could see more than the usual amount of afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada but the valley will be typically dry with above average temperatures.
Wind Discussion: The difference in pressure between the coast and the interior will increase with time, resulting in gusty northwest winds beginning this afternoon and lasting on and off through Sunday. Winds will generally be in the 10 to 15 mph range with gusts to near 30 mph along the west side and locally elsewhere.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for at least the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
