Upper level high pressure off the California coast will slowly link up with another high over the southern Plains, essentially developing a heat belt from Texas to California. Hot weather will begin today with readings over the century mark Friday through Sunday. I noted the temperature at 6:00am at Sandberg was 62 degrees at an elevation of 4,100 feet. The freezing level above Oakland has risen o 16,100 feet with a weak westerly flow aloft. This bubble of warm, subsiding air will clamp down on the marine layer, allowing readings on the valley floor to range between 102 and 107 Friday through Sunday. Relief is on the way as a trough of low pressure pushes into the Pacific Northwest and northern California Sunday through Tuesday. By Tuesday, readings will fall to below average as marine air floods the valley. This cool down will not last long, however, as the newest high will build in from the west by Thursday, pushing readings near the century mark again during the late part of the workweek and into the coming weekend.
Forecast: Other than occasional high clouds, it will be mostly clear and hot through Sunday. Mostly clear Monday through Wednesday with a warming trend. Mostly clear and hot Thursday.

Two Week Outlook: June 16 through June 22: This model shows a trough of low pressure being more dominant along the west coast, allowing modified marine air to move down the valley from time to time. Near to marginally below average temperatures will be the result along with dry conditions.
June: This model shows a high center over New Mexico and Texas extending into California for marginally above average temperatures for the month with the usual dry conditions prevailing.
June, July, August: This model is hinting at a possible active monsoon season this year once we get into July and August. It’s possible we could see more than the usual amount of afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada but the valley will be typically dry with above average temperatures.
Wind Discussion: Winds during the afternoons and evenings will be mainly out of the northwest at 5 to 12 mph with locally stronger gusts. Winds during the night and morning hours will be generally at or less than 10 mph with periods of near calm conditions.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for at least the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
