A low center off the Washington coast continues to build a trough southward into northern and central California. Temperatures yesterday finally dipped below the century mark at all locations. Currently, there is a 5.1 millibar difference in pressure between Salinas and Fresno which is plenty strong enough to tug modified marine air into the valley. The latest sounding above Monterey indicates the marine layer is more than 3,000 feet deep. Winds at Traverse AFB in the Delta are out of the southwest at 22 mph, gusting to 30. Readings will drop into the mid 90s today and the pleasant upper 80s Sunday and for the Fourth of July. Temperatures will remain moderate through Tuesday. Wednesday will be a transition day as a massive high over the middle of the country expands westward into California for the beginning of a warming trend. It appears triple digits are on the distant horizon, possibly as early as Friday of next week with the likelihood of triple digits next weekend. Most medium range models beyond next weekend indicate conditions will be hot as the classic configuration of high pressure over the Four Corners region sets up for a prolonged visit.
Forecast: Clear skies through the Fourth of July with a cooling trend, occasionally breezy. Mostly clear Tuesday through Saturday.

Two Week Outlook: July 9 through July 15 A broad expanse of high pressure centered over the Desert Southwest will move back overhead during this period for above average temperatures. Monsoon moisture may trigger afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada with occasional clouds over the valley floor.
June: This model shows a high center over New Mexico and Texas extending into California for marginally above average temperatures for the month with the usual dry conditions prevailing.
June, July, August: This model is hinting at a possible active monsoon season this year once we get into July and August. It’s possible we could see more than the usual amount of afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada but the valley will be typically dry with above average temperatures.
We will be out of the office July 4. Reports will resume July 5. Have a safe weekend!
Wind Discussion: Winds will continue to be mainly out of the northwest at 8 to 15 mph at times through Tuesday. Gusts to near 30 mph are possible in the afternoons and evenings especially along the west side but locally elsewhere.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
