Strong upper level high pressure continues to be anchored over the Four Corners region with California on its western flank. The clockwise flow around the high continues to pump up moisture from the monsoon into southern California. High clouds at this hour are as far north as Los Angeles County. The flow above central California remains out of the south/southwest which is keeping the bulk of this moisture to our southeast. Even so, there will be a continuing risk of isolated thunderstorms over the high Sierra, mainly from Tulare County south. The warm descending air underneath high pressure will keep temperatures in the triple digits through the weekend. The marine layer this morning remains at about 1,000 feet. Winds at Travis AFB continue to be fairly light, so no help from the marine layer. We should see very slow cooling over the weekend as the high weakens a tad. Even so, readings will remain in triple digits. Most models point to lower hundreds through Thursday of next week. A weak trough of low pressure moving through the Pacific Northwest will deepen the marine layer enough for a shallow shot of that air to move down the valley around Wednesday. Even so, readings near the century mark can be expected through next weekend.
Forecast: Outside of occasional high clouds, it will be mostly clear and hot through Monday. mostly clear and hot Monday night through Thursday.

Two Week Outlook: July 259through August 3 This model continues to show well above average temperatures during this period. It also shows a better than even chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms over the southern California deserts and possibly up the Sierra Nevada. The usual dry conditions will continue over the valley floor.
June: This model shows a high center over New Mexico and Texas extending into California for marginally above average temperatures for the month with the usual dry conditions prevailing.
June, July, August: This model is hinting at a possible active monsoon season this year once we get into July and August. It’s possible we could see more than the usual amount of afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada but the valley will be typically dry with above average temperatures.
Wind Discussion: During the afternoon and evening hours, winds will be mainly out of the northwest at 8 to 15 mph with locally stronger gusts. During the late evening through the morning hours, winds will be variable to 10 mph with periods of near calm conditions through Sunday.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
