An abundant amount of moisture from the monsoon is rotating around the bottom of high pressure centered over northern California. Doppler radar is picking up sprinkles even over the valley floor this morning. These sprinkles are falling from debris clouds which are leftovers from thunderstorms over Nevada yesterday. As the daytime heating process gets underway, more thunderstorms will erupt over the Sierra Nevada and the mountains and deserts of southern California, including Kern County. Isolated thunderstorms or isolated showers will be possible over the valley floor through Monday evening. Most locations will remain dry, but measurable rain will be possible over the valley floor especially near the Sierra Nevada foothills and near the base of the Tehachapi Mountains. By Tuesday, the winds aloft will be out of the south/southwest, nudging most of the monsoon moisture to our east. Hot weather will also return as less cloud cover will allow solar heating to resume. Temperature forecasting for today and Monday will be difficult due to cloud cover. Most locations will end up in the 90s most days. Medium range models show a southeast flow developing again this coming weekend for possibly another round of moisture from the monsoon.
Forecast: Variable cloudiness through Monday night with a chance of sprinkles or isolated light showers or thunderstorms. Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Tuesday. Mostly clear Wednesday through Friday and hot. Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Friday night through Sunday.
