Upper level high pressure stretches from one center over Wyoming westward to another center off the central coast with a warm bubble of subsiding air above us. Temperatures will continue to soar into triple digits. Temperatures yesterday ranged from 102 at Visalia to 108 at Lemoore. Expect similar conditions today. Temperatures may drop a degree or two Sunday through Tuesday but will still remain above the 100 degree mark due to a weak low moving through the Pacific Northwest. After that system moves through, a massive high will build over the western US, continuing hot weather for the remainder of next week. models show limited amounts of moisture from the monsoon moving up the Sierra Nevada. That, combined with intense daytime heating should be enough for isolated thunderstorms afternoons and evenings over the back country. Even the two week model is indicating the continuation of well above average temperatures for the remainder of August. Hopefully the pattern will change in September to give us a break in what has been a long, hot summer.
Forecast: Mostly clear and hot through Tuesday. Mostly clear and continued hot Tuesday night through Saturday.

Two Week Outlook: August 26 through September 1: This model shows the monsoon moving slightly to our east, reducing the chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada. The trend of above average temperatures this August will continue.
August: This model is quite generic, indicating the same trend of high pressure resulting in generally above average temperatures for the month of August. Precipitation will be near average, which means very little to none. This model continues to show an active monsoon over the west which may visit California from time to time.
August, September, October: Upper level high pressure will be more dominant over the next few months, resulting in somewhat above average temperatures. This year’s monsoon, which has been an active one so far, will result in a continuation of above average precipitation over the Desert Southwest and possibly the Sierra Nevada.
Wind Discussion: Winds will be mainly out of the northwest afternoons and evenings at 5 to 12 mph through Tuesday. Winds during the night and morning hours will be light to near calm.
Rain: Expect dry weather indefinitely.
Frost: All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
