The band of mid and high level clouds has now moved into southern California. Strong surface and upper level high pressure is rapidly building over the Great Basin. This will set the stage for another round of Santa Ana winds this weekend due to relatively steep differences in pressure between the Great Basin and off the southern California coast. It’s always a gamble to forecast winds in the south valley under Santa Ana wind conditions, but it’s possible localized gusty south to southeast winds may crank up below places like the bottom of the Grapevine or even further east towards highway 198. Otherwise, the weekend weather will be uneventful with hazy skies and patchy late night and early morning fog. A weak weather system will try to approach the northern California coast Monday but it will basically fall apart off shore. Its remnants will form an upper low off the southern California coast, with no weather. Still nothing of note regarding rain anytime soon. For now, Thanksgiving Day’s weather looks to be similar to that of today. One model places a 64 degree mark on Thanksgiving Day and near 70 on Friday and Saturday. Some of the medium range models are showing rain trying to move into northern California around December 1, although truthfully, there’s a wide variety of possibilities. A buffet of weather, so to speak.
Forecast: outside of patchy morning fog and lots of valley haze, it will be mostly clear through Monday night. Just patchy late night and morning fog and hazy afternoons Tuesday through Friday.

Wind Discussion: Winds through early this evening will be out of the northwest at around 8 to 15 5mph with locally stronger gusts. The chance of strong, gusty winds moving downslope off the Tehachapi Mountains will increase later tonight and Saturday. If these winds materialize, gusts to 40 or 50 mph are possible at places like the bottom of the Grapevine. There’s also a decent chance they may not make it to the valey floor. However, with the pattern showing up on charts, I fee it prudent to add the chance to the forecast Winds later Saturday through Monday will generally be at or less than 10 mph with periods of near calm conditions.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for at least the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: Air temperatures are a bit cooler than 24 hours ago and dew points have risen slightly over the past 24 hours so we can expect another night in the low to mid 30s. Upper 20s are possible in those colder locations. Similar conditions can be expected Sunday and Monday mornings, as well. For now, I see little hope in changing this stagnant weather pattern as upper level high pressure remains anchored over and off the west coast. With dry weather expected for the next week to ten days, the status quo will remain in effect.
