At the regularly reporting weather stations, only Visalia is reporting a reduced visibility. Visalia’s reporting ¼ mile visibility while all others are reporting 6 miles or better. Skies are generally clear not only for the valley, but for the entire state of California. A ridge of upper level high pressure extends off shore north/northeastward into western Canada. This continues to maintain a northerly flow. Another system will move out of the Gulf of Alaska Sunday, through the Pacific Northwest and then into the Great Basin too far to the east to directly impact our weather. It will, however, keep the northerly flow going for marginally below average temperatures. A massive high will build over the eastern Pacific Ocean Monday and about the western ¼ of the lower 48. This will turn the winds aloft northwesterly, allowing for minor moderation in temperatures with highs rising into the mid to upper 50s, which is typical for the latter part of January. Lows will mostly be in the low to mid 30s. medium range models show the dry pattern continuing almost through late January. The two week model is now calling for above average rain for early February with below average temperatures.
Forecast: Outside of patchy night and morning fog, it will be mostly clear through Tuesday. Pockets of night and morning fog will continue Wednesday through Saturday. Otherwise, mostly clear but hazy conditions will prevail.

Two Week Outlook: January 28 through February 3: This model for the second day in a row is shifting towards a pattern that would bring precipitation back to central California. Potential storminess would be from the Gulf of Alaska so it appears we will start off February with below average temperatures.
January: This model continues the trend of the season with a favorable pattern for rain for California. The best chance of rain in January will be over the northern half of the state. Temperatures will run marginally below average.
January, February, March: This model nudges the storm track further north with near average rainfall for northern California but somewhat below average for central and southern California. Temperatures will run marginally above average.
Wind Discussion: Winds will be generally at or less than 7 mph late mornings and afternoons and variable in nature. winds during the night and morning hours will be light with extended periods of near calm conditions through Tuesday.
Rain Discussion: Expect dry conditions for the next 7 to possibly 10 days.
Frost Discussion: Lows this morning are mostly in the low to mid 30s with a few upper 20s in the typical cold spots. Conditions tonight will be quite similar with the very coldest locations dipping down to 27 to28 degrees. Most flat terrain areas will dip down to 29 to 33 with hillsides remaining above freezing. Tonight’s inversion will be decent with temperatures at 34 feet ranging from 4 to 8 degrees warmer at most locations. The forecast for the next week or so is very stable. The only wild card continues to be fog potential and how widespread it ultimately becomes. So far the fog has been patchy, but that can certainly change. Minor modification in the atmosphere will take place beginning mid week, however lows will still dip into the low to mid 30s with isolated pockets in the upper 20s.
