April 11, 2023 am
Summary:It will be noticeably cooler today as the combination of cooler air aloft and an influx of marine air into the valley lower temperatures into the mid to upper 60s today and tomorrow. A trough of low pressure currently stretches from western Canada southward into northern California.
The only active weather is way up in northern Oregon and Washington. The trough will slide eastward into the Great Basin Thursday and into the Midwest Friday. This will again allow upper level high pressure off shore to build inland for our next warming trend.
The winds aloft over the weekend will become westerly, spreading a warmer air mass into the western US. By Sunday and Monday, readings will again tease with the 80 degree mark. This typical springtime pattern will continue as yet another cold trough of low pressure moves into the Pacific Northwest Monday night and Tuesday. This system will dig a little further south with shower spreading over northern California, possibly down to a Monterey/Merced/Yosemite line.
The pattern after Wednesday is a bit muddy at the moment, but it does appear a dry pattern will set up again by next weekend.
Forecast: Other than occasional mid and high level clouds, it will be mostly clear through Friday. Mostly clear and warmer Friday night through Monday. increasing cloudiness Tuesday. Variable clouds Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Two Week Outlook: April 19 through April 25: This model has reverted back to a cooler and possibly wetter pattern as the storm track moves a bit further south. There is a reasonable chance of precipitation during this period.
April: This model is showing a dominant westerly flow during the month, resulting in below average temperatures. The main storm track will be through the Pacific Northwest and the northern one-fourth of California. Central California is just south of that zone with predicted near average precipitation.
April, May, June: The 90 day outlook calls for generally near to below average precipitation as we head into the dry season. The model doesn’t swing in either direction regarding temperatures, calling for near average temperatures.
Wind Discussion: Winds will remain mainly out of the northwest at around 8 to 15 mph with locally stronger gusts through Thursday. Winds Thursday night through Saturday will be generally at or less than 12 mph, becoming light and variable during the night and morning hours.
Rain Discussion: Expect dry weather to continue through at least Monday night of next week. models show a trough of low pressure dipping further south about Monday night or Tuesday which may spread showers down to a Monterey/Merced/Yosemite line. Otherwise dry weather will continue indefinitely.
Mid afternoon dew points: Low to mid 40s. Kern: Low to mid 40s.
