Summary: Temperatures are running 5 to 8 degrees warmer than 24 hours ago as upper level high pressure builds northeastward via the eastern Pacific Ocean. The freezing level is similar to 24 hours ago with the latest balloon sounding over Vandenburg AFB at 13,700 feet. Widespread mid 80s can be anticipated today and again on Sunday. A weak trough of low pressure will race through the Pacific Northwest and into the Great Basin Monday through Tuesday for a very minor cooling trend. Beyond Tuesday, strong high pressure aloft will settle right over California, resulting in the first early summer weather Wednesday through Sunday. It’s possible the warmest locations on the valley floor will tease with the 90 degree mark as early as Wednesday. Models now show the likelihood of low to mid 90s Thursday through Sunday, a good 15 plus degrees above average for late April. Models are still showing a low pressure system developing off the northern California coast from May 1 through the 3. However, unlike previous model runs, the low is projected to remain far enough off shore to keep precipitation out of the forecast through at least the 4th or 5th. Beyond that, models are inconclusive.
Forecast: Mostly clear through Tuesday. Mostly clear Tuesday night through Saturday.

Two Week Outlook: April 28 through May 4: This model is showing a late season low pressure system moving through California with a greater than average shot at precipitation during this period. Even so, temperatures will remain close to average.
April: This model is showing a dominant westerly flow during the month, resulting in below average temperatures. The main storm track will be through the Pacific Northwest and the northern one-fourth of California. Central California is just south of that zone with predicted near average precipitation.
April, May, June: The 90 day outlook calls for generally near to below average precipitation as we head into the dry season. The model doesn’t swing in either direction regarding temperatures, calling for near average temperatures.
Wind Discussion: Winds later today will be mainly out of the northwest at 5 to 12 mph. Winds tonight will be generally at or less than 7 mph with periods of near calm conditions. Winds Sunday afternoon through Tuesday will be mainly out of the northwest at around 8 to 15 mph. Gusts to near 20 mph are possible, mainly during the afternoons and evenings.
