Summary: a broad expanse of upper level high pressure covers the eastern Pacific Ocean, the western half of the US with a ridge extending into western Canada. The only exception is a weak upper air feature over the Pacific Northwest. As a result, temperatures have soared with most locations ranging in the upper 90s and isolated locations in the lower triple digit range. Hottest in the valley Sunday afternoon was 100 at Lemoore, and 102 at Bakersfield. The marine layer along the coast is actually moderately deep with a depth of 2,100 feet at Fort Ord. there is a very weak intrusion of marine air into the Delta. Winds at Traverse AFB are out of the west at 15 mph. However, there is very little difference in pressure between the coast and the interior. Certainly not enough difference to tug that sea breeze down the valley. So, for now we do not anticipate any cooling for the foreseeable future with most locations ranging n the mid to upper 90s each afternoon and hottest locations in the lower 100s. The high will remain in place for the next 8 to 10 days with a trough possibly approaching the coast around the 27th. Until then, expect summer type conditions to prevail.
Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Thursday night. Mostly clear skies will continue Friday through Monday.

Two Week Outlook: May 22 through May 28th: Above average temperatures will continue through this period with upper level high pressure in charge. This model continues to point towards possibly above average rainfall over the Desert Southwest, however there’s no strong signature for rain for central California.
May: This model continues trends during the month of May that we saw in April. Pressures will be lower than average along the west coast, resulting in the chance of above average rainfall and below average temperatures
May, June, July: This model doesn’t really move the needle either way for temperatures and rainfall over the next three months. being that we’re heading into the hot, dry season, it means little anyway.
Wind Discussion: Winds will be mainly out of the northwest through Thursday at 8 to 15 mph afternoons and evenings and 5 to 7 mph nights and mornings with periods of near calm conditions.
Rain Discussion: Expect dry weather for the next week to 10 days.
