Summary Every now and then in the world of weather, a piece of weather information staggers the mind. This morning, as of 4:00am, it was 106 degrees at Death Valley. Day before yesterday, that same location reached 128 degrees, which is in the top 5 temperature heat records scored anywhere on Earth. The weather station is located in a place called Furnace Creek, which is aptly named. Ag locations are again generally in the 70s while the larger urban areas are in the low to mid 80s. High temperatures will moderate slightly over the next 72 hours as strong upper level high pressure shifts a bit further east. The high will flatten out somewhat Wednesday and Thursday for slight moderation in temperatures. The marine layer has also deepened to nearly 2,000 feet. There is a minimal amount of marine air trickling through the Delta. Winds at Traverse AFB are out of the southeast at 18 mph. for now, it doesn’t appear the marine influence will affect the central or south valley. Over the weekend, the high will expand northward and westward again, driving temperatures to once again rise into excessively hot levels, possibly reach 110 degrees in some locations Saturday and Sunday.
Forecast: Other than occasional high clouds, it will be mostly clear and hot through Friday. Mostly clear and extremely hot Saturday through Tuesday.

Two Week Outlook: July 24 through July 30: This model shows a typical summer pattern with monsoonal moisture working its way into the desert southwest and possibly southern California. Expect near average temperatures and dry conditions but with a chance of isolated thunderstorms over he summit of the
Sierra Nevada.
July: Typically, this time of year there is absolutely nothing going on in the world of weather. Temperature forecasts are the main forecast challenge. For now, the usual dry conditions will prevail with temperatures near to marginally above average
July, August, September: The monsoon into the Desert Southwest and occasionally California is what we carefully watch this time of year, especially during August and September. This model is currently showing below average precipitation over Arizona and New Mexico. This indicates there will be less of a chance of the monsoon visiting California this summer. Temperatures are expected to range above average.
Wind Discussion: Winds during the late evening through the morning hours will generally be at or less than 8 mph with periods of near calm conditions. During the afternoon and evening, winds will be generally at or less than 15 mph with locally stronger gusts through Friday.
Rain Discussion: Expect dry conditions for at least the next week.
Mid afternoon dew points: Low to mid 50s. Kern: Low to mid 50s.
