Summary Today will be the fifteenth day in a row of temperatures of 100 degrees or more and the nineteenth day this month of temps at that level. Temperatures yesterday afternoon ranged from 105 at Visalia to 110 at Lemoore NAS. The marine layer along the coast remains shallow at 1,300 feet. However, some of that modified sea breeze is moving through the Delta. At last report, Travis AFB was reporting winds out of the southwest at 19 mph, gusting to 26. It’s possible this shallow modified marine air could reach Merced and Los Banos where temperatures may come down a few degrees, but it’s doubtful it will affect the central or south valley where temperatures will remain well above the century mark. The mid and high level clouds observed the past few days are from the monsoon. The clockwise rotation around strong high pressure over the Four Corners region will continue to move monsoonal moisture northward into California. Isolated thunderstorms are possible over the southern Sierra Nevada and possibly the Kern County mountains and deserts. Beginning Wednesday, the high will begin to flatten out as a weak trough of low pressure moves into the Pacific Northwest. Pressures will slowly weaken over California by mid week, resulting in minor synoptic cooling. This change will also allow some modified marine air to move down the valley, possibly allowing the marine layer to deepen enough to move down the valley, hopefully lowering temperatures into double digits by Friday. Stay tuned, however, as the pattern we’re under is persistent and is hard to break. Models show the high rebuilding over the west coast next week for another round of hot summer weather.
Forecast: Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy through Tuesday and continued hot. Mostly clear Tuesday night through Friday and a little less hot. Mostly clear Friday night through Sunday. Partly cloudy Sunday night and Monday.

Two Week Outlook: July 31 through August 6: This model shows an active monsoon in the Desert Southwest and California. There will be a chance of mainly pm thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada with occasional periods of higher level clouds over the valley floor. temperatures are projected to be above average.
July: Typically, this time of year there is absolutely nothing going on in the world of weather. Temperature forecasts are the main forecast challenge. For now, the usual dry conditions will prevail with temperatures near to marginally above average
July, August, September: The monsoon into the Desert Southwest and occasionally California is what we carefully watch this time of year, especially during August and September. This model is currently showing below average precipitation over Arizona and New Mexico. This indicates there will be less of a chance of the monsoon visiting California this summer. Temperatures are expected to range above average.
Wind Discussion: Winds during the late evening through the morning hours will generally be at or less than 8 mph with periods of near calm conditions. During the afternoon and evening, winds will be generally at or less than 15 mph with locally stronger gusts through Thursday.
Rain Discussion: Expect dry conditions for at least the next week.
