Summary Strong upper level high pressure has jogged a bit further east and is centered over New Mexico this morning. As a result, temperatures over central California have weakened enough for minor cooling. Also, a shallow intrusion of marine air lowered temperatures from Merced County north into the upper 90s yesterday afternoon. Widespread triple digits occurred again south of Merced County. The flow of marine air through the Delta has slowed. The latest observation at Traverse AFB has winds out of the southwest at 15 mph. yesterday at this time, winds were gusting to 25 mph. Widespread triple digits will continue through Friday even though readings will not be as hot as in recent days. As a trough of low pressure enters the Pacific Northwest over the weekend and flattens the high, we may see some double digits this coming weekend. Satellite imagery shows the monsoon to our south flattening out. Mid and high level clouds will slowly decrease then end as the winds aloft become southwesterly. It appears another round of hot weather will occur later next week as the high builds over us.
Forecast: Outside of occasional high clouds today, it will be mostly clear and hot through Friday. Mostly clear Friday night through Tuesday.

Two Week Outlook: August 1 through August 7: This model shows an active monsoon in the Desert Southwest and California. There will be a chance of mainly pm thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada with occasional periods of higher level clouds over the valley floor. temperatures are projected to be above average.
July: Typically, this time of year there is absolutely nothing going on in the world of weather. Temperature forecasts are the main forecast challenge. For now, the usual dry conditions will prevail with temperatures near to marginally above average
July, August, September: The monsoon into the Desert Southwest and occasionally California is what we carefully watch this time of year, especially during August and September. This model is currently showing below average precipitation over Arizona and New Mexico. This indicates there will be less of a chance of the monsoon visiting California this summer. Temperatures are expected to range above average.
Wind Discussion: During the late morning through the late evening hours, winds will be out of the northwest at 8 to 15 mph with local gusts to 20 mph through Friday. During the night and early morning hours, winds will be mainly out of the northwest at 5 to 10 mph with locally stronger gusts.
Rain Discussion: Expect dry conditions for at least the next week.
