Summary: upper level high pressure along the California coast is giving way to a rapidly weakening trough of low pressure which will spread showers over northern California today with just a minimal chance of light showers from mainly Fresno County north tonight. A very temporary ridge of high pressure will build in behind the trough for dry weather Thursday through Friday. A considerably stronger trough will approach the coast by Friday evening. This system has decent upper air support and will spread rain all the way down the valley Friday night, continuing Saturday. It now appears that anywhere from .33to .25 is possible north of Fresno with .25 to .50 over Kings and Tulare Counties and a tenth or two over the valley portion of Kern County. Behind this system is a series of weak waves which will move in Sunday through Tuesday with a slight chance of showers. One such system will move into southern California Sunday night. models show a ridge of high pressure temporarily building in Tuesday night and Wednesday followed by another trough of low pressure Wednesday and Thursday.
Forecast: Variable cloudiness today. A slight chance of showers tonight, mainly from Fresno County north. Partly cloudy Thursday morning through Friday. Rain spreading down the valley Friday night. rain at times Saturday. A slight chance of light showers Saturday through Tuesday. partly cloudy Tuesday night with a chance of showers Wednesday.

Frost Discussion: All locations will remain above 32 degrees tonight and each night for the next 7 day period. It will turn somewhat colder beginning Sunday. However, in and out cloud cover will mitigate any frost threat. Lows Monday through Wednesday of next week will likely chill into the mid to upper 30s with a slight chance of a few lower 30. Still nothing on longer range models suggesting a pattern conducive for below freezing temperatures.
