Summary: Temperatures this afternoon above the valley floor are running from 6 to 11 degrees warmer than 24 hours ago. On the valley floor, most locations are 2 to 3 degrees milder and are in the upper 40 to near 50. Upper level high pressure over the eastern Pacific has temporarily regained control of our weather. This will guarantee us mostly clear skies through Wednesday. The high will give way late Wednesday afternoon, leading to the likelihood of light showers Wednesday night and Thursday morning. latest models are showing a slight chance for measurable rain, but are adamant that this will be a very light precipitation event with most locations recording .10 or less north of Kern County. Upper level high pressure build in from the west once again Thursday afternoon and night. another shot of cold air will invade the valley Thursday and Thursday night, leading to more subfreezing temperatures for Friday morning and possibly Saturday. Over the weekend, a series of weak impulses will move from northwest to southeast across central California. It’s questionable if any will have enough upper air support for precipitation. Models for next model currently are showing dry conditions for central California as a westerly flow develops, steering the main storm track into the Pacific Northwest and about the northern one-fourth of California.
Forecast: Other than pockets of fog after midnight, it will be mostly clear and cold tonight. Mostly clear Tuesday through Tuesday night with areas of ground fog during the early morning hours. Increasing cloudiness Wednesday leading to a chance of light showers by evening. Light showers will be likely Wednesday night and Thursday morning, mainly north of Kern County. Becoming partly to mostly clear Thursday afternoon and night. variable cloudiness Friday night through Monday with a slight chance of showers, mainly Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Winds: Winds will be generally at or less than 6 mph with periods of near calm conditions through Wednesday morning. winds will be mostly out of the northwest Wednesday afternoon through Thursday at 5 to 12 mph with gusts to 20 mph possible Thursday.
Rain: Expect dry weather to continue through at least Wednesday morning. models have increased the chance for measurable rain Wednesday night and Thursday morning, mainly north of Kern County. However, it still appears to be a very light precipitation event with most locations recording .10 or less north of Kern County with perhaps a few hundredths in Kern County. This weekend, another moisture starved event may occur, especially Saturday night and Sunday. For the second day in a row, models are pointing to a dry pattern for next week as the storm track migrates into the Pacific Northwest and roughly the northern one-fourth of California.
Frost: Lows tonight will, in all likelihood, be similar to this morning’s. Coldest low lying river bottom type locations could fall down to 26 to 27 degrees in unprotected locations. Most flat terrain regions will range between 28 and 31. Hillsides will remain in the 30s. the inversion tonight will be much better with temperatures at 34 feet ranging 5 to 8 degrees warmer. A weak system will rapidly move across the valley Wednesday morning so lows will remain in the 30s at most locations. Another shot of cold air will follow this system for another round of upper 20s and lower 30s Friday morning. over the weekend, weak waves of low pressure will move from northwest to southeast across the valley. This will provide occasional cloudiness at times Sunday through Monday, keeping temperatures generally in the 30s. models show the westerlies finally breaking through Monday and Tuesday of next week. While the midwestern part of the US finds itself in a deep freeze, temperatures in the central valley will be above average.
