Summary: A secondary disturbance followed yesterday’s trough of low pressure, resulting in a few light showers during the predawn hours. Measurable rain over the past few hours has been generally less than .10. the exception is Merced which recorded .11. A ridge of upper level high pressure will begin building into California later today and will dominate our weather through Tuesday. The trailing portion of a trough of low pressure will result in only a chance of light showers from Fresno north Tuesday night and Wednesday. Upper level high pressure will quickly replace the trough Wednesday. For a return to dry weather Wednesday night through Friday night. in between these systems will be the challenge of fog and low clouds. Over the weekend, a large low will park in the Gulf of Alaska. The jet stream will flank underneath this low and will come onshore through the Pacific Northwest and the northern half of California. Historically, this is a pattern which brings generous rains to northern and central California. This is the second day models have pointed in this direction so hopefully beginning as early as Friday night and Saturday more substantial rain will move back to central California. With the general west to east flow in the upper atmosphere, there will be no chance of frost this week.
