January 20, 2024 report

January 20, 2024

Summary: Rainfall overnight was quite light. The heaviest amount as of 5:00am was .15 at Madera. Most locations have recorded less than .10. Currently, we’re under a moist southwest flow aloft. Embedded within this flow are waves of low pressure which will move on shore at times through Monday night.  Each time this occurs, bands of showers will move across the valley. The strongest of these will move through Monday and Monday night. the freezing level has come down considerably from yesterday, but still stands at 7,600 feet according to the balloon sounding over Oakland a short time ago. Snow levels are no doubt down to around 7,000 feet this morning. precipitation will come to an end by late Monday night or early Tuesday as a ridge of high pressure moves in from the west. There is a slight chance of a few showers Wednesday due to a weak system moving into northern California. However, most of the valley will remain dry. The storm track is projected to affect roughly north of the growing area Thursday through Saturday. For the second day in a row, the GFS model is projecting wet weather around the second of February.

Forecast: Periods of rain through Monday night. partly cloudy Tuesday with areas of morning fog. Mostly cloudy Wednesday and Wednesday night with a slight chance of showers from Fresno north. Partly cloudy Thursday through Sunday with areas of night and morning fog and low clouds.
