January 22, 2024 report

January 22, 2024

Summary: A number of showers continue to move from west to east through the valley this morning. This will be a very active weather day as the main body of low pressure moves across California. High resolution model information indicates anywhere from a half to three quarters of an inch is possible between now and late this evening in addition, isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening, especially if breaks in the overcast occur, allowing the atmosphere to further destabilize. Rain will begin to taper off by midnight as a weak ridge of high pressure builds in from the west. The next system upstream is weaker and is taking move of a northerly path. Even so, there will be a chance of light showers, mainly north of Kern County Wednesday and Wednesday evening. Upper level high pressure will build from southwest to northeast across  California beginning Thursday. This high will dominate the pattern through the weekend and into the first few days of next week. The two week model is advertising a wet pattern beginning the first week of  February.

Forecast: Periods of rain through late this evening. A chance of lingering showers into early Tuesday morning. partly cloudy Tuesday after periods of morning fog and low clouds. A chance of light showers Wednesday and Wednesday north of Kern County. Partly cloudy Thursday through Monday with areas of night and morning  low clouds and fog.
