March 9, 2024 report

March 9, 2024

Summary  through Sunday, we will be under the influence of an upper ridge of high pressure over California. From Sunday night through Monday night two weak weather systems will move through the Pacific Northwest and northern California. Central California will barely get clipped by these systems. A few light showers could spread as far south as a Monterey/Madera line. From Fresno County south, dry conditions will continue. Beginning Wednesday, a large high will build over the eastern Pacific Ocean and will center roughly 500 miles west of the California coast with a big ridge extending northward into British Columbia. While that’s occurring, a low center over the northern Rockies will drop southward and take up residence over the Colorado River Valley. Dry weather will prevail Wednesday and beyond. Temperatures will be fairly close to seasonal through Friday then rise to above average through Saturday, remaining there for several days. Models continue to show a pattern that would result in a long spell of dry weather, going out through at least the 22nd with above average temperatures in the longer term. There’s little chance of precipitation.

Forecast Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy through Monday. increasing cloudiness Monday evening leading to a chance of light showers Monday night and Tuesday. Partly cloudy Monday night and Tuesday. Mostly clear Wednesday through Saturday.

Two Week Forecast:  March 16 through March 22: This model depicts a strong high center over the western one-third of the US and off shore. This, in turn, will drive the storm track well north of California for dry weather with above average temperatures.

Thirty Day Report: If this model has much credence, rainfall will remain above average, especially in northern and central California, stretching into the interior west. Temperatures however, look to be marginally below average.

Ninety Day Report: This model indicates near to marginally above average rainfall over the next three months. Equal chances are given for temperatures being above or below average.

Winds:  Winds will be generally out of the northwest through this evening at 5 to 8 mph. Winds tonight through Tuesday night will be generally less than 8 mph with periods of near calm conditions.

Rain: There will be a chance of light showers, mainly from Fresno County north, Monday night and Tuesday. If precipitation spreads this far south, it will in all likelihood amounts will be generally .10 or less. once this little system brushes by, dry weather will prevail with no additional chances of rain for a good ten days or so and possibly longer.
