March 25, 2024 report

March 25, 2024

Summary  The weekend’s storm which resulted in significant precipitation for the valley has finally moved on, leaving California in a dry northwesterly flow. High pressure over the eastern Pacific Ocean will temporarily move inland, resulting in dry weather through Wednesday. A weak wave of low pressure will move through Wednesday night and early Thursday for a small chance of showers from mainly Fresno County north. A slot of dry weather will return Thursday through Friday then a low center off the coast of the Pacific Northwest will drop southward parallel to the California coast. Most models show this system parking off the central coast over the weekend. The counter clockwise circulation around the low is projected to remain off shore for 72 hours or so, resulting in a chance of showers anytime from Friday night through Sunday. Longer range models also point towards periodic bouts of precipitation as a dominant trough of low pressure governs the western one-fourth of the western US during the first week in April.

Forecast  Partly cloudy through Tuesday. Variable cloudiness Tuesday night through Wednesday night with a slight chance of showers Wednesday night. Partly cloudy Thursday through Friday. Increasing cloudiness Friday leading to a chance of rain by evening. Periods of rain Friday night through Saturday night. a chance of showers Sunday through Monday.

Two Week Forecast:  April 1 through April 7: This model shows a rather robust flow into California. Energy from the northeast Pacific moves into California from time to time. The chance of rain is relatively high during this period with below average temperatures.

Thirty Day Report: If this model has much credence, rainfall will remain above average, especially in northern and central California, stretching into the interior west. Temperatures however, look to be marginally below average.

Ninety Day Report: This model indicates near to marginally above average rainfall over the next three months. Equal chances are given for temperatures being above or below average.

Winds:  Winds will continue to be mainly out of the northwest at  5 to 12 mph through Tuesday night. winds Wednesday through Thursday will be mainly out of the southeast at 5 to 12 mph with locally stronger gusts.

Rain: There will be multiple chances for measurable rain this week. a weak wave of low pressure will move  through Wednesday night for a small chance of light showers from mainly Fresno County north. Thursday and Thursday night will  be dry. Expect periods of rain Thursday night through Saturday night with a chance of showers Sunday and Monday. This is all due to a big low which will be sitting just off the central coast for 72 hours. Looking even further down the road, both the ten day and the two week outlook call for an excellent chance of rain.
