March 30, 2024 report

March 30, 2024

Summary  As of the time of this writing, showers were fairly widespread in Kern, Tulare, and parts of Fresno County. This is all due to a closed low located roughly 200 miles west of Monterey. This system will continue to pinwheel showers inland today and, with the daytime heating effect becoming stronger with the higher sun angle, currents of warm air will rise up off the valley floor, potentially developing thunderstorms this afternoon through the early evening hours. The low will move slowly down the coast and will center over the Channel Islands Sunday, pushing into Arizona Monday, ending the chance of precipitation. a fairly strong ridge of upper level high pressure will center over northern California Tuesday through Wednesday. A new trough of low pressure will drop southward from the Gulf of Alaska, giving a chance of light showers to northern California Thursday night with a slight chance of showers Thursday night and Friday to the rest of the growing area. A weak trough will remain along the west coast over the weekend for a slight chance of showers, mainly near the mountains. The main impact of this trough will be a continuation of below average temperatures and somewhat elevated wind conditions.

Forecast  A continuing risk of showers through this evening with a slight chance of thunderstorms this afternoon. Any thunderstorms would be accompanied by heavy rain and small hail. Mostly cloudy tonight. Partly cloudy Sunday and Sunday night. mostly clear Monday through Thursday. Increasing cloudiness Thursday night leading to a slight chance of showers Thursday night through Saturday.
