April 17, 2024 report

April 17, 2024

Summary  We’re late enough in the spring season now where later spring and summer tools can be added. For example, one of the elements I frequently use during the dry season  is the depth of the marine layer and we find the marine layer  is only 600 feet  deep this morning. This is an indication of  weak high pressure aloft, meaning no marine air will move through the delta to begin a cooling trend any time soon. In fact, the eastern Pacific Ocean is a mish mash of weak areas of high pressure with no real  organized storm system to contend with. The bottom line is yesterday’s weather will be today’s weather with very little change through the weekend. High temperatures will generally run in the mid to upper 80s through the upcoming weekend and well into next week. To find much of a change in the overall pattern, we have to  go out to the 24 of April. Models are hinting at a significant area of low pressure off the northern  California coast which could be our next chance of rain.

Forecast Outside of some areas of high, thin clouds at times, it will be mostly clear through Wednesday of next week.

Two Week Forecast:  April 24 through April: This model is flipping back to one which could result in showers for  the valley. An area  of low pressure is projected to be off the California coast between the 24 and 26 for at least a chance of showers and below average temperatures.

Thirty Day Report: This model gives equal chances of above and below average temperatures for the month of April. The chance of precipitation is slightly above average for the month.

Ninety Day Report: As we enter the dry season, this model predicts precipitation will be above or below average. There is no real trend to grab onto, so temperatures are expected to be near seasonal average.

Winds: Winds through Saturday will be mainly variable with periods of near calm conditions. Winds during the afternoon and early evening will be mainly out of the northwest 5 to 10 mph.

Rain: It appears this dry pattern will last through at least the 24 of April. We’ll add a small chance of showers between the 24 and 26 of April.
