Summary There is all kinds of evidence this morning that a major cool down is underway. The depth of the marine layer has shot up to over 4,000 feet, which is roughly 3,000 feet deeper than 24 hours ago. Marine air is gushing through the Delta. Winds at TAFB are gusting to 30 mph. further south at Pacheco Pass, winds are gusting to 30 mph. forecasting temperature drops under these circumstances is always kind of tricky, but for now it appears a good 10 to 12 degrees of cooling will occur today with another 5 to 7 degrees on Wednesday. All of this is being brough on by a trough of low pressure with two low centers embedded in the trough. The strongest of the two is off the coast of British Columbia. The second is off the central California coast. The one off shore will move inland through southern California Thursday while the second system dives into northern and central California Friday afternoon through early Saturday. That system will spread light showers over northern California then down the Sierra Nevada Friday. Even though this is a drier system, it now appears there’s a minimal chance of light showers Friday afternoon into early Saturday, mainly from Fresno County north. The trough will move inland Saturday, leaving a strong northwesterly flow over the weekend and keeping temperatures pretty close to average for the date. Models show another trough digging into California around Wednesday of next week, at least another cool down will occur.
Forecast Mostly clear skies through Tuesday night. some low clouds are possible along the foothills of Kern and Tulare Counties. Partly cloudy Wednesday through Thursday. Variable cloudiness Thursday through Friday night. there will be a slight chance of showers, mainly from Fresno north Friday afternoon through early Saturday. Partly cloudy Saturday afternoon. Mostly clear Saturday night through Tuesday.
