April 29, 2024 report

April 29, 2024

Summary  Central California remains under a flat high pressure system. A low resides over the Pacific Northwest. This is having no impact on central California. Temperatures will remain near seasonal values through Wednesday with readings in the upper 70s to lower 80s. The high will firm up somewhat Friday, driving temperatures to near 90 in most locations. This tranquil weather pattern will continue through this coming weekend. It appears our next period of possible unsettled weather will occur May 4 and 5 as a large low center parks off the northern California coast. Some models show it moving inland over central California about May 5 with a chance of showers and much cooler weather. The low will open up into a broad area of low pressure covering the western one-third of the western US with below average temperatures and a chance of showers, especially over the mountain areas. Until then, fine spring weather will prevail with dry conditions and mostly clear skies.

Forecast Mostly clear skies all the way through Monday of next week.

Two Week Forecast:  May 6 through May 12: This model indicates a low pressure system will be off the northern California coast. The chance of precipitation will be higher than normal during this time frame with temperatures marginally below average.

Thirty Day Report: This model gives equal chances of above and below average temperatures for the month of April. The chance of precipitation is slightly above average for the month.

Ninety Day Report: As we enter the dry season, this model predicts precipitation will be above or below average. There is no real trend to grab onto, so temperatures are expected to be near seasonal average.

Winds: Winds will be mainly out of the northwest at 8 to 15 mph through Thursday. Local gusts to 20 mph are possible, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours.

Rain: It appears our next chance of rain will occur around the 4 and 5 of May. The GFS model shows a cut off low off the northern California coast, moving southward right into northern and central California around the 5. If it follows what models are indicating, there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms. For now, we’ll call for just a chance of showers and thunderstorms around the 4 and 5, tweaking the forecast as necessary as we move forward in time.
